The variation in the reactance causes the voltage drop to increase or decrease inside the circuit. Any frequency less than the cutoff frequency is passed without any attenuation. While any other higher frequency signal then the cutoff frequency will be blocked. Any signal with a frequency lower than the cutoff frequency of the filter gets blocked. While any signal with a frequency higher than the cutoff frequency passes with full amplitude.
This type of filter has two cutoff frequencies i. Any input signal having frequency belonging to the passband frequencies will get passed without any attenuation. This type of filter attenuates the signal whose frequencies lies in a fixed band of frequencies. It is also known as Band Stop filter or Notch Filter. It works completely opposite to the bandpass filter.
But it does not allow a fixed band of frequencies in between. And any signals having frequency in-between these cutoff frequencies are rejected by the filter.
Frequency filters have so many applications in our livelihood; some of these applications are given below;. Your email address will not be published. Notify me of follow-up comments by email.

This is a simple primary filter. As a capacitor allows ac through it and blocks dc, a filter called Shunt Capacitor Filter can be constructed using a capacitor, connected in shunt, as shown in the following figure.
The rectified output when passed through this filter, the ac components present in the signal are grounded through the capacitor which allows ac components. The remaining dc components present in the signal are collected at the output. The above filter types discussed are constructed using an inductor or a capacitor. These are combinational filters.
A filter circuit can be constructed using both inductor and capacitor in order to obtain a better output where the efficiencies of both inductor and capacitor can be used. The figure below shows the circuit diagram of a LC filter.
The rectified output when given to this circuit, the inductor allows dc components to pass through it, blocking the ac components in the signal. Now, from that signal, few more ac components if any present are grounded so that we get a pure dc output. This filter is also called as a Choke Input Filter as the input signal first enters the inductor. The output of this filter is a better one than the previous ones. This is another type of filter circuit which is very commonly used.
It has capacitor at its input and hence it is also called as a Capacitor Input Filter. A Filter object contains state information for the process of outputting and inputting data through the filter. The precise state information stored is up to the particular filter and may range from nothing to whole objects created and destroyed.
Each filter stores different state information for input and output and thus may handle one input filtering process and one output filtering process at the same time. Creates a new filter object with empty state information ready for processing data both input and output.
